St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school--it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's--the very place where they're most in danger. . . . Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi--the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires--make Lissa one of them forever."
My Rating★★★★★

My Thoughts:
Outstanding novel. Definitely a different take on a vampire story. The writing style is so addicting and it makes it easy to fly through the book. I absolutely loved Rose and her strong personality...from her sarcasm to her jokes to maturing and working hard to protect Lissa...amazing -- she showed true dedication to her work and friendship. Lissa was pretty cool too I'm just glad she caught control of her specialty before she lost it. Her new love with Christian is so adorable. I really liked how the logistics with the Moroi, Dhampir, and Strigoi were explained. It all made sense and was a unique twist on vampires. Dimitri -- such a hottie -- needs to suck it up and deal with his feelings for Rose. Lissa's uncle Victor is wrong beyond words...

Overall Conclusion:
The high school drama mixed with the action and craziness of this paranormal world was extremely entertaining to read about.  I absolutely love this book and can't figure out why I've been sleeping on it for so long.

Great start to the series! Awesome job Richelle Mead. I'm even more in love with vampires now than before.
