Synopsis:
Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact, he didn't even believe in them. Then he hooks up with a hot babe, wakes up with a hangover, and bites his tongue with his own fangs.

Which pretty much settles the question.

Now he's trying to hold down his day job while learning the rules of the Undead -- the most important being that bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts are a real bitch.

Upside; Eric has the beautiful Sasha to teach him the ropes, including the magic he'll need to survive.

Downside; they're being hunted by members of the Church of Light, who are determined to rid the world of vampires.

Then Sasha is killed, and Eric is thrust into an alternate world in his quest to avenge her death. There he becomes a Nightlord, fights a dragon with the help of his magical steed, Bronze, and upchucks a sword named Firebrand.

But things get really interesting when Eric finally finds Tobias, head of the Church of Light. Soon Eric finds himself at the center of an epic battle at the literal edge of the world in a fight to keep a terrible darkness at bay.

In other words, just another day in the life of the Nightlord.

My Rating:

My Thoughts:
This book was a shocker! I love anything paranormal especially with vampires, so I was excited to give this book a chance. This blew my mind. This is considered an epic fantasy, but with those paranormal aspects it's just outstanding!

Right from the start this had me laughing from how sarcastic, witty and crazy Eric was. He meets a beautiful woman named Sasha who turns him into a Dayblood because he looks like her husband reincarnated. He didn't ask to be a vampire, so he felt violated. As Sasha explains things to him about his past, who she is and his life he thinks she's crazy. Eventually when he can't do things like he used to and his friend gets hurt he believes her. He is then thrown into a war with the Fist who end up killing Sasha and from then on he is propelled into a world he never knew, but recognizes.

I absolutely loved Eric! He was very smart, witty and even though he couldn't remember his past clearly he knew some things which made it a bit easier to maneuver. I enjoyed the romance between Sasha and him even though it was quick, but finding out the truth behind the romance killed me! I loved the idea of various kinds of vampires and how they operated. The vampires are not your typical cliche vampires which is awesome for those readers that are not into vampire stories -- this will make you love a good vampire read.

I love the alternate world that was created with another language. The world was definitely magical and different from the norm. The people were all torn between sides with the church and vampires which was a war within itself. Loved that this was action packed from start to finish. No slow or boring parts. I found this made it quick and easy to read in one sitting.

This is not a book you can expect to read sitting quietly. You will break out in laughter, curse at characters and scream at certain scenes. This does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger which is a killer because it definitely makes you want to read the sequel right away. From start to finish this kept me hooked and I highly recommend it if your in the mood for a good paranormal high fantasy read.
