Synopsis:
A dark epic fantasy series, where one woman's thirst for revenge will put the entire world in jeopardy.

The only thing twenty-one year old Adrastine wants is revenge against her depraved father—but when she tries to kill him, she is caught and thrown into a holy war for a god she doesn’t believe in. But disaster is coming, and all Adrastine’s problems will seem minor by comparison. Someone, or something, is draining the planet’s lifeblood, killing the land and everything on it at an alarming rate.

Jacob is a shelon, a man who can wield magic, and a spy dispatched by Queen Valtice to find The Rose of Nerine – the only one who can stop the rape of the land and save the people. But when Jacob finds Adrastine, he can’t convince her that she is The Rose, let alone to leave her home and journey with him across the tempestuous sea to Nerine.

Adrastine is drawn to Jacob, despite their differences. But that is a dangerous path, as he is an unwelcome distraction to her quest for revenge. And if she learns his secrets, it will cement her hatred of men forever, weakening powers she is only just learning she has, powers needed to save their world.

My Rating:

My Thoughts:
This was freaking amazing and I'm definitely waiting to read book 2. This was just so phenomenal. From the writing to the world and to the characters. All simply amazing. I loved the various POV's and how well they meshed and formed such a cohesive story. Dionne Lister is seriously amazing.

Adrastine aka Addy was a kick ass character for me. I loved everything about her from beginning to end. She was bold, spunky, had great killer instincts, but still was a shy little girl. Everything she went through in her life by the hands of her father was insane. Learning that she's a shelon was even crazier. Learning who she really was kept me wanting to read more. I'm looking forward to seeing her fully embrace who she is and saving the world.

Radnok is the most vile man I've ever known. His brother Smarnus as well. I can't believe how twisted and power hungry these two are. I didn't care for how Radnok treated his wife and daughter -- let alone young girls in general. I did like that Smarnus was gay. It definitely added some diversity to the story a bit. However, both brothers are foul men and both need to die horrible deaths in my opinion.

Lilliana was a horrible mother in my eyes when it came to Addy, but as the story progressed I learned that it wasn't her fault, but her husband's Radnok. I love how she went from doubting and self hating to finally snapping out of it in the end. I wish she would have snapped out of it earlier, but better late than never. She seems to be very powerful so I can't wait to see her in action.

Kerwyn was amazing. I love how he always tried to do what was right. Finding out who he was amazed. Good things truly happen to those you least expect. Jacob was awesome. I love him and I hope that he and Addy work out. The two of these guys being the prophecy is simply awesome. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

The magic in this world seemed pretty well developed, but I hope to see more magic in the sequel. I hope things workout between Jacob and Addy romance wise. They would be cute. The ending was seriously perfect I'm ready for the sequel!
