Synopsis:
From the author of the On the Line and Fire on Ice hockey romance series comes a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act.

Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey’s hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago—and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?

Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.

My Rating:
My Thoughts:
Such an awesome sexy and hilarious read. This was full of so much emotion, mainly from the male character, which I found so refreshing. Not many romance novels focus on male characters and their emotional baggage, but Brenda Rothert has done it and phenomenally so! I loved everything about this book from start to finish.

Miranda is headstrong, hard working woman. She works two jobs just to put herself through school and she doesn't like to depend on others. She's strong, smart, beautiful and sassy. She doesn't take mess from anyone -- especially a man. She's not the type to throw herself at a man no matter what. She had some hardships in the past with men, but I love that she didn't let that hinder her from enjoying a man's company.

Jake is your typical sports star, but with his fame he harbors a lot of doubt, pain and emotional baggage. Jake is hands down hot and knows how to make a woman's panties twist in a bunch. He's a smart one too -- has his degree in business. There's nothing that Jake can't have if he sets his mind on it -- however one thing he struggles with is his past. Jake has dealt with a lot of guilt surrounding his family and it isn't until he meets Miranda. Jake hasn't been a serious relationship for a while, but when he has a run in with Miranda he finally see's a woman worth his time, energy and love.

The romance is absolutely amazing between Jake and Miranda. You have Miranda who has been single for over a year after her ex was dating her and another woman. You have Jake who is a player through and through. They meet at the hotel and things hitch off from there. Miranda happened to be Jake's maid and she gave him an earful, not afraid of his money or fame. They were the perfect match and balanced one another out. I love how tender and sweet Jake was with Miranda even when it came to sex. He never pushed for it. I loved how Miranda was all about taking care of herself. She never pushed for his money. They made each other better and helped each other 100%. I loved them.

I definitely plan to read more of Brenda Rothert's work because her writing has completely intrigued and gripped me. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick romance read that has some depth and emotion to it. Also if you're into sports romance, this is an awesome one to read.
